Norman Alston, FAIA, has been involved with Fair Park First since the very beginning. He was a founding board member and the organization’s first Board Secretary, helping set the early vision for how Fair Park could be restored and cared for. After his time on the board, Norman has continued to support Fair Park First and the surrounding community as both a consultant and a neighborhood advocate. He now represents Fair Park First as the Project Manager for the new Fair Park Community Park.

Norman is the founder of Norman Alston Architects, a Dallas-based firm focused on saving and reusing historic buildings. For more than three decades, his work has shown that preserving older places can make good economic sense, protect the environment, and keep a community’s history alive. He is especially interested in making historic buildings part of everyday life, rather than treating them as museums.

Norman is also deeply engaged in civic life. He is a former City of Dallas Landmark Commissioner and currently serves as vice chair of the City’s Urban Design Peer Review Panel. He has served on statewide and local preservation boards, including as past president of Preservation Dallas, and will serve as Board President of the Dallas Architecture Center in 2027. In 2019, he was honored to be named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, one of the profession’s highest honors.
